WaterSmart is a NGO based in Cape Town concerned with the effect we are having on our water quality and availability.
WaterSmart does not exist as it is a school project and we have sourced all our data and images from The City of Cape Town Smart Living Handbook, For the Love of Water's website and Google Images.
Generally water quality is the physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of water necessary to sustain desired water uses. Any river in Cape Town is affected by agriculture, commerce before water is used and polluted further by residential usage.
The availability of water for irrigation or consumption is the amount of water supplied by public utilities per person, per year in a region. Water availability is also linked to sanitation. Sanitation generally refers to the provision of facilities and services for the safe disposal of human urine and faeces. Inadequate sanitation is a major cause of disease world-wide and improving sanitation is known to have a significant beneficial impact on health both in households and across communities.
These components, agriculture, commerce and residential usage, affect availability and quality in the rivers across Cape Town.
